Rain, Rain, Go Away

For those of you who may not know, we here in Central Texas have received more rain than we know what to do with. So much rain that STAR Flight was dispatched 16 times and made 2 hoist rescues over Memorial Day Weekend.  

The devastation reaches far beyond Central Texas. More than 30 individuals have lost their lives in Texas, Mexico, and Oklahoma. That number is expected to climb as water levels drop. You can read the full KXAN and CNN news stories here.

As I'm writing this post, the sun is shining and the birds are chirping. But the forecast is calling for more rain... 

There is nothing we can do to control the weather. There are however ample opportunities to provide assistance and help ensure the safety of all residents and pets. Below are a few organizations and groups requesting your time and/or donations:

Summer

Happy Memorial Day, everyone! It is officially summer and I am excited to FINALLY share my summer plans with you all. (I know. I've been promising to do so since Spring Break...)

I am going on a medical mission trip to Peru later this summer! For 6 weeks! With complete strangers! While taking an on-line elective! 

I am nuts, right? 

Maybe. But I have been dreaming about doing this since I was a kid. :) The opportunity presented itself through school - I highly suggest opening and glancing through the emails your student adviser sends you. You never know what opportunities they might include!

I am volunteering with a non-profit organization and will be working in both a hospital and at several health fairs in the surrounding villages. I don't think I could be more excited! 

I have a million things to do before my trip and would really appreciate your suggestions on packing! I'm taking one backpack (that's right) and plan to keep things super simple. Have you traveled internationally on a medical mission trip? What were your must take items? Feel free to share in the comments section below!

I am sorry it has been so long since I last posted...school is bananas. This week is the last week of classes and the week after that I have finals. There is light at the end of the tunnel!

I have so much to catch you all up on. I have come across so many wonderful resources! I attended the TNP (Texas Nurse Practitioner)  Primary Care & Pharmacology Update Conference and soooo much has happened this legislative session. But what I am really looking forward to writing about are my summer plans. Spoiler alert: it involves international travel!
